6" & 7" Gutters

6-Inch & 7-Inch Seamless Gutters for Southwest Florida Homes

Larger gutters carry more water before they overflow. We install 6" and 7" seamless aluminum gutters sized to your roof, so heavy Florida rain goes into the gutter and away from your home instead of over the edge.

Why bigger gutters make sense in Florida

Gutter size is not about looks first. It is about how much water the gutter can hold and move to the downspouts before it spills over. In Southwest Florida, three things push that limit:

  • Intense downpours. Summer storms and tropical systems drop a lot of rain in a short time. A small gutter that handles a light shower can be overwhelmed in minutes.
  • Larger roof areas. Many homes here are wide, single-level houses with big roofs, plus lanais and pool cages that add to the area draining into one gutter.
  • Steeper tile roofs. Tile is everywhere in our area, and tile roofs shed water fast and in heavy sheets. Water coming off a steep tile roof needs a gutter wide enough to catch it.

When the gutter is too small, water overshoots or overflows, and you get the same problems as having no gutters at all: splashing, erosion, stained walls and wet fascia.

5" vs 6" vs 7"

Here is a simple comparison of the three most common residential sizes. The measurement refers to the width across the top of the gutter.

6" gutterHigher than 5"Most SWFL homesGreat fit for tile roofs
7" gutterHighestLarge or high roofs, commercialBest for big tile roofs

Five-inch gutters were common on older homes, but on many Southwest Florida roofs they are simply undersized. Most homes we work on are best served by 6" or 7".

When to choose 6"

6" gutters are the right choice for a large share of homes in our area. They carry noticeably more water than 5" gutters while keeping a proportion that looks natural on most houses. Consider 6" when:

  • Your home is single-story with a moderate roof area.
  • Your roof is shingle, metal or a tile roof with a moderate pitch.
  • Gutter runs are short to medium in length with downspouts placed regularly.
  • You are replacing 5" gutters that overflow only in the heaviest storms.

When to choose 7"

7" gutters give the most capacity of any residential size we install. They make sense when there is simply a lot of water coming off the roof. Consider 7" when:

  • You have a high or large tile roof that sheds water quickly.
  • Long gutter runs collect water from a big section of roof before reaching a downspout.
  • Your home is two stories, where water gains speed off a taller roof.
  • The building is commercial, such as an office, plaza or HOA clubhouse. See our commercial gutter services.
  • Your current gutters overflow regularly even when they are clean.

We do not upsize just to upsell. We look at your roof area, pitch, material and drainage, and recommend the size that fits.

Matching downspouts

A bigger gutter needs a downspout that can keep up. If the gutter catches more water but the downspout is narrow, water backs up at the outlet and overflows anyway. With 6" and 7" gutters we use larger downspouts that move more water and are less likely to clog with leaves and palm debris.

Placement matters just as much as size. We plan where each downspout goes so water ends up on the lawn, away from your foundation, pavers and pool cage.

Upgrading from 5" gutters

If your 5" gutters overflow during summer storms, are leaking at the seams or are pulling away from the fascia, an upgrade is usually the smartest move. We remove the old gutters, inspect the fascia behind them and install new seamless gutters in the right size. Learn more about the process on our gutter replacement page, or read about seamless gutter installation if you are building or re-roofing.

If the fascia behind your old gutters has soft or rotted spots, we can handle fascia repair in the same visit so the new gutters have a solid board to attach to.

How we choose the right size for your home

Choosing a gutter size is not guesswork. During your free estimate we look at the things that actually control how much water reaches each gutter: the roof material, the pitch, the size of each roof section and how long each run is before it reaches a downspout. We also look at where water is going today. Stained walls, washed-out mulch and water marks on pavers tell us where the current system is falling short.

Then we explain our recommendation in plain terms. In some cases the answer is a larger gutter. In others, the current size is fine and adding a downspout or fixing the slope solves the problem. You will know why we suggest what we suggest, so you can make the decision with confidence.

Oversized gutters also pair well with gutter guards, since a wider gutter opening can collect more leaves and palm debris along with the extra water.

Looks and curb appeal

Many homeowners worry that bigger gutters will look bulky. In practice, 6" and 7" gutters often look more balanced on Southwest Florida homes, especially under thick tile roofs with deep eaves. A small gutter under a heavy tile edge can look undersized. Seamless runs also give a clean line with no visible seams every few feet.

Our aluminum gutters come in factory-finished colors, and we help you match them to your fascia, trim or roof. We install oversized gutters across the region, including Cape Coral, Fort Myers, Naples and Sarasota.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will 6" or 7" gutters look too big on my house?

Usually not. On homes with tile roofs and deep eaves, larger gutters tend to look more in proportion. Color matching to your fascia also helps them blend in.

Is 7" overkill for a single-story home?

Not always. A single-story home with a large or steep tile roof can still send a lot of water into each gutter. For many single-story homes 6" is enough, and we will tell you honestly which fits.

Can you upgrade only part of my house?

Yes. If one side of the roof collects much more water, we can install larger gutters on those runs. We make sure the transitions look clean and drain correctly.

Do bigger gutters need bigger downspouts?

Yes. A larger gutter should be paired with larger downspouts so water can leave the gutter as fast as it comes in.

Do you install 7" gutters on homes or only commercial?

7" gutters are installed on homes too, especially large or high tile roofs, two-story homes and long runs. They are also common on commercial buildings.
