Vented soffit has small perforations that let air flow into the attic. Solid soffit has no openings. Most homes need vented soffit along much of the roofline, with solid panels in spots where airflow is not needed, such as over a lanai or porch ceiling.
Attic ventilation matters a lot in the Florida heat. On a sunny summer day, an attic without enough airflow can get extremely hot. That heat radiates down into your living space, makes your air conditioner work harder and can shorten the life of roofing materials. Trapped moisture from our humid air can also lead to mildew and damp insulation. Vented soffit, paired with vents near the top of the roof, lets cooler air come in low and hot air escape high.
When we replace soffit, we look at how your attic is ventilated and recommend the right mix of vented and solid panels for your home.
